    Tower Grove House - 1868
In the late 1840s, when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert decided to build themselves a country house, they found the perfect spot on the Isle of Wight and commissioned Thomas Cubitt to design and build a classic villa in the Italianate Style. This set off a huge fashion for the Italianate across the UK and the USA. Suddenly roof slopes were reduced, porches started spreading and square shaped towers sprouted everywhere. Few American examples capture the essence of the style so well as this delightful home, designed for the Tower Grove Park superintendent, by Francis Tunica.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. Built over a full basement, the entrance is through a porch, into the tower. Three reception rooms grace the front of the house, while a rear wing accomodates the kitchen and could easily be arranged to contain a bedroom and bath. The spacious staircase leads to a second floor with 3 bedrooms, each large enough that some space could be stolen from them to acommodate 2 baths. The tower contains a stair that leads up an additional 2 levels. This house would be comfortable in a suburban or country setting. The house has outside dimensions of approximately 42' x 80', including porches.

SHIPPING: Your drawings are shipped to you, by US Postal Service, rolled, not folded, in a Priority Mail tube.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD: These plans are NOT complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL Italianate Victorian Style home, not a pseudo-Victorian tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
