St. George Tucker, noted Virginia jurist, moved a small eighteenth century one and one-half story house from the east side of the palace green in Williamsburg, Virginia, to its present site, and greatly enlarged it to its present size, between 1788 and 1796. Many of the building and finishing accounts survive in the family papers. The house is owned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and was restored in 1931.
The wood framed house over a brick raised basement centers around a 2 story section with lateral wings on either side. The first floor has 4 principal rooms, a kitchen wing and a bedroom suite. The second floor and attics of the single story wings contain many additional bedrooms and bathrooms.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans could easily be adapted to a flat to moderately sloping site. This plan is “family” sized. With its countless bedrooms and multi-purpose spaces in the attics it could accommodate a large family engaged in numerous activities. The main floor also offers many opportunities for adaptation to different requirements. Its longest dimension exceeds 126’. The whole sits on a raised basement. On a sloping site a ‘walk out’ basement could provide additional living space. Its rambling wings and spreading plan make it ideal for a spacious suburban or country setting.
Please visit my other listings for many other drawings I am offering. I have house plans in wide variety of styles including Colonial, Craftsman, and Prairie, as well as plans of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Irving Gill, Purcell & Elmslie and others.
SHIPPING:

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD:
These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL historic house, not a pseudo-historic tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE:
Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
