    Description

This is an antique African Dogon Tribe horse bridle Ring Bit which is a rare piece of horse tack which was hand forged from iron by Dogon metalsmiths and used by Dogon horsemen and was collected from Mali, Africa. The ring bit is a strong instrument distinguished by the fact that the curb chain is replaced by a ring attached at the top of the mouthpiece which is worn by going around the horse’s lower jaw. The ring would press the sensitive chin of the horse when the reins were pulled. This Dogon metal horse ring bit check plates not including the ring measures 7.50 inches long, check plates including the ring measure 11.50 inches long, bit measures 3.90 inches wide and the ring measures 3.10 inches wide. Great condition with a rusty patina, a cool tribal repair and only one rein chain.
